  How do Naga Software licenses work?

Naga Software licenses are administered in the same manner that CoCreate controls the Onespace module licenses. A program called the ME license server (MEls for short) runs as a process on the license server (or local workstation if the licenses are not distributed on a network). This program controls the availability of licenses for Onespace and any additional modules, including Naga Software modules.

The MEls system uses unique codewords to determine the license quantities, types, and their availability for use. A codeword is generated by Naga Software for the appropriate module, and the MEls server controls the usage and availability of those licenses. This is performed in a manner identical to the management of the CoCreate licenses and modules.

The codeword that Naga issues is placed in the same file as the CoCreate license codewords. This codeword license file is called “MEls.conf”. This file is usually located in the following directory of the license server:

C:\Program Files\CoCreate\MEls

This file can be edited with any text editor. The Naga supplied codeword should be placed in this file along with the existing CoCreate codewords.

  How do I find the Mac address of my license server or workstation?

To find out the MAC address(s) of your license server, in Windows XP select

Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt

In the command prompt window, type: ipconfig /all

It will list out all of the physical LAN adapters that are on the machine. There may be more than one. Each LAN adapter will have a item listed as “Physical Address”. For example:

Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-15-F2-3A-77-7B

The physical address is often referred to as a “MAC Address”. It is the unique ID of the machine’s LAN adapter(s) that the CoCreate ME license server program uses to generate your machines unique codeword(s). If there are multiple addresses, you will need to determine which address you gave CoCreate and Naga Software for your license generation.  It is often listed at the top of your MEls.conf file among the commented lines.

  How do I determine which LAN adapter Mac Address MEls is pointing to?

To find out which LAN adapter your license server is pointing to, follow these steps:

Start->All Programs->CoCreate Onespace->CoCreate Onespace License Server 2007->Status license server

This will bring up a web page window that will show the current status of you ME license server.

At the top you will see a line of text that looks something like:

MEls Rev. 15.0.2.0(2007/1/29) @ (your server name here).[0x001731eb9e57] - First installation: 2006/7/16 - Uptime: 6m41s - Now: 2007/7/31T18:10:22

In this example, the “0x001731eb9e57” is the Mac Address that the ME license server program is currently pointing to for the CoCreate licenses.

  How do I point MEls to another LAN adapter?

Redirecting MEls to another LAN adapter Mac Address can be performed by running the MEls configuration tool

Start->All Programs->CoCreate Onespace->CoCreate Onespace License Server 2007->Configure License Server

This configuration utility will allow the user to see the various Lan Adapter(s) Mac Addresses and choose which adapter to use with the CoCreate and Naga Software licenses.

 How do I point Onespace to a different license server to obtain it's license, or to redirect it to use my local workstation MEls server with a local license?

Redirecting Onespace to obtain licenses from various sources can be performed by modifying the Onespace installation:

Start -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs -> CoCreate OneSpace Designer Modeling 2006

Select "Change"

Select "Next" until you are presented the license server page.

If you want Onespace to obtain its licenses from the local machine (using an MSU or local LAN adapter), then make sure the box "Use local host" is checked.

If you want Onespace to obtain it's license from a remote license server, enter the name of the license server in the address box and uncheck the "Use local host" is unchecked.

Multiple sources can also be designated, for example you could enter a remote license server and a local host such as :

"nagaLicenseserver.nagasoftware.com, localhost"

If Onespace cannot find an open license on the remote server, it will try to obtain a license from the local machine's MEls service.
